Christmas Markets enjoy a long standing tradion in Germany. This very traditional German model had even been implemented in other countries like where the Xmas  spirit had been modified to respective cultures. The most popular and well know are in Nürnberg oder Regensburg. Xmas markets are an excellent opportunity to taste new foods, have a walk and a chat with friends over a Glühwein mug. . This well establishedl view of mine had to be challenged with the moment of coming to Berlin and specifically visiting Design Xmas Market (Design-Weihnachtsmarkt, das Weihnachts Rodeo) in Jandorf Kaufkaufhaus.

Being in Berlin,  we don´t have limit ourselves to tradition but have to be able to embrace  originallity, innovation and start-up spirit. So instead the otherwise ubiquitous Glühwein, there were whisky home brands and shots exhibited for tasting and Champage bottles cooling down in the buckets. The sweets looked very equsitive and they did not  in the least resemble popular Lebkuchen.  If anybody, however, had a strong feeling that Lebkuchen were inseperable part of to Xmas German tradition, a baking set with necessary ingridents could be purchased.

At the stands of was presented a variety of foods, small fashion labels, pieces of arts and design objects. The character of a typical German Xmas Market was not typical of a what we know from Munich or other traditionally Catholic cities.
